Acrylic and vinyl paint on wood panel

8 x 10 inches

A yellow recliner and light green armchair sit like two protagonists in conversation in the foreground of this weird, almost psychedelic room. The partially rendered bright yellow chair has sharp angles to support a reclining body. To the right of the yellow chair, the armchair is mainly the pale green of the ceiling, but in seemingly random places that don’t accord with light or shadow the geode-like design of the floor shows through. The chair also has blue, yellow, and pink outlines that match colors seen elsewhere in the painting. In between the central chairs is a table made of four dark green balls with purple highlights and a glass top.

The mishmash of patterns, colors, furniture, and painting styles references a combination of interior and pattern design from the 1950s-1980s. It reflects the ways different paint languages converse, the ways patterns interact, and the lives of furniture and their interactions.
